We're often asked, “What is the best vodka for Bloody Gerry?” Early on, we felt that our Bloody Gerry mix was the star of the show and could outshine any vodka good or bad, so it didn’t matter what vodka you used. But that's not true, the vodka you use matters. A lot of our friends choose Tito’s Vodka because it's smooth, affordable and the company is commendable for giving back to their community and for their donations to dog rescues through their Vodka For Dog People program.
The fermented grains that the vodka starts with makes a world of difference in the ending flavors. Corn vodka (Tito's Vodka, Smithworks Vodka, Big Spring Vodka) will be sweeter than a traditional rye (Belvedere Vodka, Sobieski Vodka, Square One Vodka, Belvedere Smogory Forest) that will be more spice forward with a crisp and dry finish. Depending on the flavors you enjoy, choose a vodka brand that uses the fermented grains that you like and experiment with different flavors.
Recently, we’ve been introduced to a few fantastic vodka brands that are setting the bar high and complementing the flavors in Bloody Gerry. Let us know when you try one!
We first tried this vodka at their sprawling distillery in downtown Los Angeles and were absolutely blown away. We’ve tried infused vodkas before but man this is fresh! Greenbar Distillery has the largest portfolio of organic spirits in the world and lucky for us, they're in the heart of Los Angeles, less than 20 miles from us in Venice!
Tru Garden Vodka is green, herbal and garden fresh, this vodka captures the essence of spring. It’s a great base for savory cocktails that pair well with food so naturally, it makes for a fantastic bloody mary.

This premium pepper flavored vodka is one of Gerry’s favorites, it’s hot, spicy and has a multiple peppery layers of flavor. By using 3 different peppers they’ve created a bright, vegetal spice from green bell pepper, chili pepper and jalapeño pepper. If you like spicy bloody marys you must try a Bloody Gerry with Absolut Pepar Vodka!

We found out about Our Vodka Los Angeles when visiting our local liquor stores, first at Alan’s Market in Marina Del Rey, then at Simon’s Provisions. The cute vintage style bottle caught our attention then Jamela at Simon’s said she can’t keep it on the shelves so we had to try it. Our Vodka Los Angeles is partly distilled, blended with locally sourced ingredients and hand bottled in their micro-distillery in the Arts District of Downtown Los Angeles. The flavor is smooth and warm, not exactly sweet but not bitter or sharp like traditional vodkas. It’s the silent partner in the relationship of a bloody mary cocktail, you can feel the warmth after the flavor dissipates but it leaves not even a tickle behind.
The most delicious vodka infusion was with thinly cut ribbons of lemon peel, whole pink peppercorns, black peppercorns and jalapeño pepper strips. Remember to remove the seeds so you don’t light your mouth (or ass) on fire! What we got was a zesty, peppery, fresh, citrusy vodka that was absolutely delicious in our Bloody Gerry. Whether your go-to is Tito’s, Ketel One, Stolichnaya, Sobieski, Grey Goose, Reyka, Diamond Glacier, Belvedere, Chopin, or even… Popovs, a little infusion can go a long way.
